Short Update
I wanted to update about some changes and new features to The Counseling Geek. Yesterday, I migrated over to a new blog platform -- Blogger (a Google service). I felt that the blog software provided by Wix.com was a bit constricting and did not provide the customization, traffic, and support that I was looking for. So thus...the new site and look.
I am still in the process of tweaking it to my liking and updating for readability and user friendliness. If you are having any trouble viewing anything, commenting, reading, etc. -- please email me.
An update - I also just launched a Google Plus page (I still refuse to use Facebook...which I will talk about soon) so please feel free to add me to your Circles. I will provide some updates there as well as posting links to various articles, software resources, and short posts that don't fit in here.

School Counseling Technology - Basics and Beginnings (Post 2)
Good day counselors, teachers, administrators, or other interested folks. Last week I did a short overview via video blog about what I hope to cover in this series, what you can expect to feel when learning new tech skills, and helping calm some fears. This week, I will give you a few resources on where to start to acquire basic software needs (which we will utilize in upcoming posts), steps a counseling program should take to determine what types of initiatives they should tackle, and a foundation on the first program I will be covering…Google Docs.
School Counseling Technology - An Overview and Introduction (Video Blog)
This is my first posting for the series on getting started with improving or introducing 21st Century Skills and new technology into your counseling program. This weeks edition is an intro to the series and I hope to quell some fears regarding getting started and talk a bit about where we will be going in the next few weeks. Hint: Google Docs, Wix.com (where this site is hosted), Counseling Time and Statistics programs, Powerpoint, Being Internet Safe and Savvy, The Cloud, Utilizing Ipads or Tablets in the Classroom, and others.

Welcome!
Hello and welcome to The Counseling Geek - a blog for school counselors, academic advisors, program coordinators, and/or other employees of the educational system. This blog is for those who love utilizing technology to its fullest, would like to learn more about how to use technology in a very person-focused field, and for someone who has never used a computer for more than browsing the internet and sending email. I promise as I develop this blog that I will include snippets for every level of professional -- from techno-head to n00b (or a person new to the idea...if you didn't know what this meant, you may be one).
As you are checking out the blog entries, please feel free to explore my professional portfolio. In future blog posts, I will be explaining how to build a site like mine, utilize other tools like podcasting, powerpoint tips, and creating screencasts of presentations/webcam sessions. If there are every any questions or requests for tips, please shoot me an email or comment. Until next time...
*Note* - I will be utilizing both text and video blog posts to show some utilization of some of the technology I will be showcasing. The videos will be hosted via youtube and are available on my youtube channel "TheCounselingGeek".
