Hello faithful and fellow Geek. As promised last year when I started loosely “monetizing” this blog with affiliate ads from Amazon, I want to provide a brief yearly review of the ins and outs of The Counseling Geek. This analysis will be from July 1, 2014 to May 6th, 2015 (not because that is a year but this is when I have time to write it up).
What’s going out?
The table below will show you the operating expenses (minus any personal gifts to things like #SC|CS15) of running this site:
|Elegant themes premium WP theme||$89.00|
|Google Apps & Domain Registration||$12.00|
|Giveaways and misc.||$11.30|
What’s coming in?
The table below will show the income from advertising and affiliate networking:
|Amazon Affiliate Links||$70.59|
Total net for July 2014 – May 2015 is a loss of $64.11.
What this means and what can I do to help?
This does not mean that TCG is shuttering the site – I knew by running this site and making a few upgrades over the last year and a half that it would cost more money. That is one reason I started doing some light advertising, but $60 is not bad overall. I don’t run this site to make money (hah!), but it would be nice to run at zero expense and possibly have a little left over to put back in to improve the site more (and fund more #SC|CS16 scholarships).
What you can do to help this and also say thank you is replace your Amazon bookmark with this one: http://www.amazon.com/?tag=thecougee-20 and use that link anytime you or your school purchases items from Amazon. This costs you, the reader, nothing and provides a kick back of about 4-6% of each purchase to support the site. A very easy and non-intrusive way to support this site and improve it in the future. Please share this simple step with colleagues and friends. You can also ask your school person to change their link. If your school is anything like mine – they spend TONS of money on Amazon orders. This could give us lots of funds to put towards #SC|CS 2016 and beyond.
I appreciate your reading, interacting, and sharing of my resources. My aim is to make this site helpful, fun, and engaging. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and contact me with any questions.
