Hello faithful and fellow Geek. As promised last year when I started loosely “monetizing” this blog with affiliate ads from Amazon, I want to provide a brief yearly review of the ins and outs of The Counseling Geek. This analysis will be from July 1, 2014 to May 6th, 2015 (not because that is a year but this is when I have time to write it up).
The latest internet technology helps create School Counselor self-care from a distance.
NVSCA 2015 – How to NOT be a leader & Time Saving Tech Tools for School Counselor Sanity Presentations
On February 8th – I was honored to be able to speak to a room full of (fellow) Nevada school counselors. In the first presentation, a keynote address, we talked about key aspects of “followship”. In the breakout session focused on school counselor technology, we took a look at about 8 tech tools that help school counselors save time and be more efficient. Below are the slides from each presentation.
I hope you are as excited about ASCA 2015 in Phoenix, AZ as I am! This year I, along with Paul and Stephanie Smith, will be honored to speak on the topic of School Counselor Presentations and classroom guidance skills. We hope you will add our session to your list of great breakouts and we can help you take your presentations from blah to blazing!
Failure, not reaching expectations, being let down, and overall defeat are all words that can go together when you try something and the results are not what you want. It is a natural thing in life and it is something that we, as school counselors, teach students proper ways to react to everyday. There are many areas where we can fail in our work and I am going to share a personal anecdote about one such day that I had this last week.
With Thanksgiving on us this week – I wanted to take a moment to write a sincere thank you to each of you readers and supporters. With each passing day, I am excited to collaborate and work with all of you. You and all of you on #scchat are my extended PLC and many are friends.
I am excited to offer you all a template Communication and Marketing Planning Guide for School Counselors. This form will be helpful in planning and tracking your marketing plans.
Do you feel lonely, tired, or lost after attending the ASCA 2014 conference in Orlando? If so – you are not alone. This phenomenon is called Post-ASCA Depression Syndrome (or PADS) and there is a cure.
Each summer, I will be presenting a Geeklie Award to an esteemed blogging colleague who has shown dedication, innovation, and leadership in the world of educational blogging. I will also present a Geek of the Year award to the person I feel has had the largest impact in the past 12 months on the development and guidance of our digital PLC’s goal to further our technological prowess.
Thank you all for attending our presentation on Monday 6/30 at ASCA 2014 in Orlando! Jeremy and I had a whole lot of fun preparing and presenting while sharing in the learning with you. You can find the entire slide show embedded below (it also has been available on the ASCA conference app throughout the conference). I also just wanted to give you some of the links that we discussed in the presentation.
