I wanted to share a pretty recent feature added to many Google Apps for Education users and districts. Most people are pretty well-aware of the power of Google Drive, but in the last few weeks they actually added some functionality to the platform. This comes in the form of Google Team Drives. The name itself is pretty intuitive and self-explanatory – it allows you the share a common Drive space with your team.

Do not be the Jack-of-all-trades. That is not the role of a school counselor, but too many of us try to fill it.

Perusing Facebook and Twitter – I see more and more questions about the growing list of School Counselor Specialist Certificate programs offered by The American School Counselor Association’s ASCA U. Questions range from “is it worth the money and time” to “how much did you learn from the program” – I will aim to answer both about the two I have completed and the one I am delving into in a few months.

I don’t know about you, but 2016 was a challenging, fun and overall – great year for me. I had to miss ASCA 2016, but had my son Joel which is a good excuse! The School Counselor Community Scholarship continues to grow each year – we are looking forward to awarding the funds to the applicants in the coming months. Plus I am still having fun (and finding time) to blog about once or twice a month. I love getting to learn with everyone.
I always like to look back at the end of each year and pick my favorite posts. This year – I am picking 3. Check out my Top of 2016 posts below. Happy Holidays from The Counseling Geek and family!

I am not quite sure about you, but when I got my Masters for school counseling – I didn’t realize how much event (and test) coordination would tag along with the job. I typically dread processing registrations, sign ups and getting info out to attendees for things like parent nights, test prep workshops, and most recently – a community college case study. It just wears on you.
Luckily, I rediscovered and re-purposed a great online program (and yes – there is an app for that) that takes 75% of the headache of event planning away!
