Have you ever wanted to feel like you were the master of your technology? I thought so – now is the chance.
Lots of times, we counselors (and teachers or administrators) have an old desktop but also a laptop that we need to use for different purposes. What if you wanted or needed to use both? Did you know you can make a dual monitor setup at home or at work with out two monitors (but with two computers)? You can.
There is a sweet tool (that I am using as I type) called Mouse Without Borders that allows you to use one set of mouse and keyboard to control two, three, or even four different machines. If you have ever used a two monitor setup (if not – you really should! It changed my life…), this makes using two machines feel the same way. You can even copy and paste text, web addresses, etc. between the two computers with ease.
You can download the software from Microsoft (if you are a Mac, check out synergy-foss.org for a similar experience) and free up your hands to focus on one keyboard at a time.

Perhaps you could also discuss the pros and cons between MWB and Synergy. Which do you prefer, and why?
Thanks for the thoughts Nick – I use MWB and covered why in the article. It is a pretty straight forward piece of software. I listed Synergy (I have not used it since I use MWB) as an alternate for those who use Apple products. MWB is a microsoft product and does not support Apple.
Have you used Synergy? If so, why do you prefer MWB?
I have not used Synergy – the article was not a comparison piece between MWB and Synergy, but a highlight of MWB. Feel free to try out Synergy and MWB and see which is best for your needs. I can vouch for MWB, but heard wonderful things about Synergy.
